"Emotional Intelligence the Easy Way" the EI book for you!

"Forgiveness is Freeing"

I have the great fortune of coaching clients all over the country.  I get to travel to about 120 cities a year, and coach individually and small groups over the phone.

This is to say, I get to meet quite a few wonderful people.

When I’m lucky, I get to know them past a one day seminar.

Something painfully evident is the degree to which some of these wonderful clients have been treated shamefully by others in their lives.

It would be great if all people were as open to learning and growing and giving others the benefit of the doubt as you are.

But you and I know differently, don’t we?

So, what to do when you have applied all of your emotional intelligence and social savvy to the situation?  When you have been assertive (neither aggressive, nor passive) and spoken eloquently on your own behalf.

What happens when you have done everything “right” and the other person is still stubborn, rude, unkind, unfair?

It hurts, doesn’t it?

I know, because I’ve been there.

I’ve been the “right” one, because I was wronged.  Seriously, you could have randomly interviewed 200 strangers on the street, and they would have taken my side!

You know how hard it is to get past that kind of hurt when so many people take your side, right?

Let’s talk about you.

Today, I urge you to meditate, pray, reflect, (chose the words that work for you) on the idea of forgiveness.

Why forgive?

Because it takes energy to be angry.  It takes physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological energy to be angry.

And, if you are spending your energy on something negative, what energy will you have left to love your family?  Enjoy your friends?  Appreciate life to its fullest?

What energy will you have left to be the person you are meant to be?

How can you be an example for all those who look up to you?

How can you live in integrity knowing that you want others to forgive you and you don’t forgive yourself?

Forgive because it’s healing.  Because you will experience a release that you haven’t felt in a long time.

Forgive because it’s the right thing, you are the right person, and this is the right moment.

Forgive to do your part for peace in the world.

Forgive because you are worthy of so much more.

How to forgive?

Try a prayer or meditation that might go like this: “I release you, and all the negativity that I’ve ever had about you or this situation leaves my heart, mind and soul. I wish you well. I am free.”

One client once told me that she didn’t know if she could forgive someone who had done her wrong.  The good news was, she was *willing* to do so.  She felt her life unfinished as she had this “parentheses in time” that was consumed with anger.  But she was ready.  Because her purpose and her vision for herself were so compelling, so real to her, she was able to release and let go.

And then, we moved to the next step.  I told her, “When you are ready, you’ll find it easy to forgive the other person.  The greater challenge might be forgiving yourself for wasting your life to negativity.”

Forgive others, and my friend, forgive yourself. You are worthy.

With love and respect,
Crystal
